I have worked as a criminal defense attorney since my admission to the Ohio Bar in 1993 and the South Carolina Bar in 1997. I have trial experience ranging from DUI to Capital Murder. I am a the managing partner/attorney for Potter Law LLC and personally handle all my client’s legal needs. I am admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States, the Fourth and Sixth Circuit US Court of Appeals and the District Courts of South Carolina and Ohio. • Responsible for handling all serious, violent felony charges ranging from Murder, Voluntary Manslaughter, Assault and Battery with Intent to Kill and Attempted Murder. • Represent and responsible for handling of all juvenile clients in the office. • Advise clients as to all respective legal issues related to their case and how the applicable case and statutory law applies to their particular situation. • Participate in multiple jury trials in the General Sessions Court as well as applicable motion hearings on evidence and admissibility of a Defendant’s statement and other Constitutional issues. • Assist Circuit Public Defender in the general day to day operations of the office including the rendering of advise to Circuit Public Defender in such matters and budget issues and any possible practice related issues that would arise in public defender representations. • Handle large caseload and negotiate with solicitors to gain favorable plea arrangements for clients. • Cover other assistant public defender caseloads when necessary. • Assisted in the implementation and administration of the new Public Defender System passed by the South Carolina legislature involving the consolidation of multiple public defender offices. • Involved in the formulation of office policies, procedures and controls in the office setting and in representation of clients pursuant to the new Public Defender legislation. • Assist in keeping current with legislation and caselaw from Federal and State courts that affect the criminal and public defender practice. • Use case management system for keeping current with client files to ensure files are managed in an ethical and appropriate manner. • Worked in conjunction with other court agencies to ensure proper implementation of the new public defender system in the 10th Judicial Circuit.
