10+ Years of Experience

.

Before launching his own practice, Brian served as an Assistant Public Defender in Portage County, Ohio. While there, Brian made a name for himself by putting his own freedom at risk in order to defend his client’s rights. When ordered by a rogue judge to proceed to trial after a mere two hours assigned to the case, Brian declined to begin the trial because he did not want to sacrifice the client’s right to effective assistance of counsel and a fair trial. Brian was immediately arrested for refusing the judge’s illegal orders. The case garnered national attention. The National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) honored Brian for his actions with a President’s Commendation for Outstanding Service to the goal’s and objectives of the NACDL. Unlike many other law firms, Brian handles all of his cases personally. Brian provides clients with his mobile number and will return calls promptly. Brian does his own investigation of each case. This means that he is intimately aware of all the details of each case. This enables him to negotiate better deals and defend clients more effectively in court. It also means that Brian has lower costs, because he does not charge you more to pay for additional researchers or attorneys.

Brian G. Jones, Esq. was fined $100 and given a three-day suspended sentence for refusing to go to trial unprepared in a multi-witness, misdemeanor assault case the same day he was appointed. The alleged contempt arose a week earlier on the day defendant Jordan Scott was scheduled to go to trial on the misdemeanor assault charge. The Portage County Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent Scott on Aug. 16. When Jones entered his appearance at 11:00 a.m. the next day, he learned that the case was set for trial that very day. The young attorney advised the court that he was unprepared for trial that day, but Judge Plough continued the case to 1:30 p.m., giving Jones 2 1/2 hours to prepare for trial.
